Our Mission
Not One More Child Drowns
At ISR (Infant Swimming Resource), our mission is clear: "Not One More Child Drowns." While we strongly advocate for pool fences, alarms, and active adult supervision, we recognize that these traditional safety measures aren't enough on their own. ISR's innovative approach puts children at the center of drowning prevention. With over 450,000 graduates and hundreds of documented survival stories, we've proven that children can learn to save themselves.
Our technique is rooted in child psychology and behavioral science with over 55 years of research and development. We offer the industry's highest safety standards, helping children build both safety skills and confidence in the water.

Our method works because we understand that children are naturally curious and capable. Rather than rely solely on barriers, we equip them with the skills they need if they ever find themselves in water alone. We transform that natural curiosity into life-saving capability, creating confident swimmers and peace of mind for parents.

What Your Child Will Learn in
ISR Lessons
What your child will learn, and the way he or she will learn it, is what makes ISR so different from traditional swimming lessons. Always putting safety first, ISR emphasizes competence, which leads to confidence, and provides the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.

Swim Float Swim
As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.
Rollback to Float
All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them, and it's just as important for our older students as they incorporate more swimming skills.
Refreshers and Maintenance Lessons

Returning ISR students stay current with ISR skills through regular maintenance lessons and refresher courses. Monthly or weekly single lessons maintain skills, while two-week refreshers every 3-6 months adapt techniques to your growing child's needs.
ISR Lesson Structure

Private, One on One
Instruction
Our unique results are achieved through fully customized, safe and effective, one-on-one lessons with only your child and the Instructor in the water. Instructors are CPR certified.

4 or 5 Days a Week for 6-9 Weeks (average)
This schedule ensures self-rescue skills develop just like any other sensorimotor skill. When learning to walk, crawl, or even ride a bike, it’s repetition that makes for success. Practicing ISR self-rescue skills on a consistent basis allows for muscle memory to form. Muscle memory allows your child to self-rescue as soon as they reach the water.
Meet the Instructor
My name is Kari Bullan and I am a Certified ISR Instructor. My passion for teaching is built on two fundamental principles: safety and joy. As a mother of two kids who loved the water at an early age, and who have benefitted from ISR lessons, I understand the peace of mind that comes from knowing your children are safe in the water. I am committed to equipping families with essential water safety knowledge, drowning prevention strategies, and expert instruction in a nurturing and supportive environment. My goal is to inspire a lifelong love for water while ensuring every student masters essential skills. I hope to see you at the pool!
